iiON Corporation
Team Lead / Sr. DBA, San Diego, CA April 2000 – April 2007
· Recreated the database on RedHat Linux from Solaris
· Created 60% of the ColdFusion and PL*SQL code
for the company’s primary software
· Created and optimized 90% of the SQL
· Created code to dynamically insert data into
the OLTP database and a DW database simultaneously with nearly zero performance
decrease for the OLTP database
The OLTP database was used to run the online application. The DW database was for back-end analysis.
· Created 95% of the code used to generate
analytics for the DW database
Original code ran very slowly and returned results after running for a
day. My optimizations radically revamped
the analysis process and returned results in a matter of seconds; worst case
was a matter of minutes
· Created code to import / export data from the
primary application to xml and other formats to be used in offline analytic
software including SAS, Excel, and StatPack (Not Oracle’s StatsPack)
System Engineering Solutions Inc., San Diego, CA February 1998 – April 2000
Technical Writer / Programmer / DBA
· Created code to dynamically retrieve data from
a database and generate FrameMaker+SGML pages within FrameMaker
I had a timeframe of three weeks to do this.
I had to read over 3000 pages of FrameMaker SDK and implement the code
in the same time constraint. I spent the
first week digesting and absorbing the FrameMaker SDK. I spent the next four days creating a
framework for dealing with the database as objects within FrameMaker. The rest of the time I spent implementing the
code in C++ and testing.
I was an undergrad when I accomplished this feat, still 3 years away from
getting my bachelor’s degree. Other
programmers with bachelor and master’s degrees looked at the requirement and
said it could not be done. I was the only
one that said it could, and actually did it.
· Assisted with future versions of the Company’s primary software, PowerPubs in PowerBuilder and to conform with ATA
Spec 2100.
